LEADERS continue to mourn the veteran broadcaster in the country, Leonard Mambo Mbotela, following his death on Friday morning, January 7.
According his family, the deceased passed away receiving treatment at Nairobi West hospital in Nairobi.
In his letters of condolence, President William Ruto has praised Mbotela’s skills in football broadcasting, and his program Je Huu ni Ungwana? Which criticized behavior and morals in society, through KBC Tv channel.
“We are heartbroken by the news about the death of veteran journalist Leonard Mambo Mbotela. He had a great talent with radio, and unique sports broadcasting with his program Je,Huu ni Ungwana? Sorry to Mbotela’s family and friends,” Ruto mourned him.
ODM party leader Raila Odinga has praised Mbotela as an important link in the journalism profession, and his creativity in broadcasting football, cheering many.
“I am deeply saddened by the death of Leonard Mambo Mbotela, a Tajik journalist in the journalism industry and his contribution to his profession and his service to the nation. He delighted many Kenyans with a unique style in his broadcasting and especially in sports, Lala Salama Mzee Leonard Mbotela,” Raila said.
The CS of Information and Technology, William Kabogo, in his condolences, has mentioned Mbotela as one of the giants in the broadcasting industry, who brought change in the profession.
Kabogo urged budding journalists to follow in the footsteps of Mbotela, in upholding the profession, even for future generations.
“Mbotela was not only a broadcaster, but the founder of broadcasting, through his program ‘Je, Huu ni Ungwana’, which aired for 55 years on KBC radio. His voice is recognized by many generations, not only for providing information, but for smoothing the broadcasting industry, which is still practiced today. We pray for comfort for his family at this difficult time,” Kabogo mourned.
The former vice president Rigathi Gachagua has also consoled the Mbotela family, naming him as a pillar in the broadcasting profession, and the communication sector in general.
Mbotela will remain a pillar and a big name in the broadcasting profession in this country, and the entire communication sector. He has raised many and softened morals through his program ‘Je,Huu ni Ungwana’,” Gachagua lamented.
Earlier speaking to journalists at their home in Freetown Mombasa, Mbotela’s younger brother, Ronald Mbotela said that Mbotela’s health deteriorated two weeks ago, although they expected it to be his last trip.
