FORMER Kiambu Governor Waititu has been rushed to the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH)Thursday, January 13, 2025. The Milimani court sentenced former Kiambu county governor Ferdinand Waititu to 12 years in prison, after he was found guilty of fraud for tendering 588 million shillings to build a road in 2018 illegally.
He was given the option to pay a fine of 53.5 million shillings, for the offence while his wife Susan Wangari, found guilty and sentenced to one year in prison or a fine of 500,000 shillings.
At the same time, the court ruled that all prisoners are barred from holding public office for 10 years.
Waititu was found guilty of the charge of receiving 25,624,500 million shillings from the company – Testimony Enterprises Limited, the property of his wife’s partners, contrary to the laws on the transmission of tenders in the country.
He has also been found guilty of three other offenses of dealing with property suspected to be against the laws of corruption on public funds because he is alleged to have transferred money to his company – Saika Two Estate Developers Limited from Testimony Enterprises.
His company received 12,410,500 million shillings from Testimony Enterprises between July 2, 2018, and March 13, 2019, and 6 million shillings between August 27 and September 27, 2018.
Waititu was also accused of the same offense as his wife, after they jointly received 7.2 million shillings, from the company Testimony Enterprises.
