Yanga the defending champions in Tanzania’s premier league, Young Africans, have extended their lead in the league after beating Singida Big Stars 2-1 at the KMC Stadium, Dar es Salaam on Monday, February 17, 2025.
With today’s victory, Yanga has collected 52 points, leaving their nearest rivals Simba by 5 points.
Simba, who will play the 19th round with Namungo on Wednesday, are still in second place with 47 points.
To retake the lead, Simba, who have two games in hand, must win their remaining matches to reach 20 games.
The first half goals scored by Clement Mzize and Prince Dube decided the result in today’s match.
Mzize was the one who opened the book of goals in the 13th minute after scoring in a hit-and-run that happened near the gate of Singida BS.
With two minutes left before the break, Prince Dube gave Yanga the second goal with a header following a corner kick.
Singida Big Stars dominated the second half as they were able to score the winning goal through Jonathan Sowah in stoppage time.
