After years of speculation and fans eagerly waiting, Rihanna has finally confirmed that her ninth album is on the way. The 37-year-old artist, who released her first single Pon de Replay at the age of 17, has not released a new album since tangy in 2016, when she released her Anti album.
In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, Rihanna has revealed that she has been looking for the right direction for her new work, listening again to her Anti album to know where she wants to go with the ninth album (R9). However, she insists that she did not want to release music that does not match her artistic growth.
“After waiting for a long time, my work must prove to be valuable. I can’t give something ordinary,” said Rihanna.
Although she had previously said that her new album will have a reggae flavor, Rihanna has refuted the notion and said that she has no limits to any kind of music at the moment. She added that, for all the time she stayed away from music, she wanted to make sure that her new album has a great meaning for her fans.
In addition, Rihanna has touched on how her musical journey which was full of challenges and fear of failure, especially in the early years of her career. Despite this, she has gone on to become one of the best-selling female artists of the century, with her success continuing to be seen through her brands such as Fenty Beauty and Savage x Fenty.
Currently, being a mother of two children, Rihanna says that motherhood has given her a new perspective on life and her music career. “I know my new music will not be mainstream or commercial, but it will grow to where my creativity deserves to be now,” she concluded.
