WILL Smith has won four Grammy awards in his musical career. His first win was in 1989 as part of the DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince group for the song “Parents Just Don’t Understand” for Best Rap Performance. This was a historic event as it was the first time the Grammys officially recognized rap, but even so, the group boycotted the ceremony because the rap award was not televised.
His second win was in 1992 for the song “Summertime” with DJ Jazzy Jeff in the category of Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group. Later, as a solo artist, he won twice moreas follows;
1998: “Men in Black” – Best Rap Solo Performance.
1999: “Gettin’ Jiggy Wit It” on the same feature.
The 1989 victory marked a milestone for hip-hop, laying the foundation for its recognition in the mainstream music business.
