Marsabit county assembly budget committee chairman Daud Tomasot, has said that as committee they have allocated 700 million shillings in the 2024/25 financial year to clear some of the debts to those who provided services to the county government.
Speaking on Monday 3, 2025, Tomasot said that the total debt that has not been paid to Kenyans who provided various services to Marsabit county according to a special committee formed to monitor the debts situation in the county is 1.5 billion shillings.
In addition Tamasot said sh.190m was set aside to reduce the debts in the supplementary budget that was approved on Wednesday
“Despite the finance department setting a target of collecting 110m shillings for Marsabit county, it is still hard to achieve that target.” he added.
He urged the county revenue collection department to add more efforts on the revenue collection exercise inorder to hit the target.
“The revenue collection department should shift to a digital collection method that will reduce the theft of public money.” he emphasized.
