Elon Musk, the Tesla CEO marred his last day with President Donald Trump’s government at the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), on Wednesday, May 28, after 130 days of in the United States government and bromance with his friend and boss Trump.
The world’s richest man posted about his departure on his official X account, expressing his gratitude to Trump, stating that the Doge program will continue and strengthen the government’s mission to reduce waste accounted from spending.
“As my scheduled time as a Special Government Employee comes to an end, I would like to thank President Donald Trump for the opportunity to reduce wasteful spending. The Doge mission will only strengthen over time as it becomes a way of life throughout the government,” Musk wrote.
His term was to official come to an end on May, 30, with the abrupt departure raising eyebrows, after days of speculation of Musk missing out and failure of the Doge program to be successful.
According to a report by BBC, Musk’s role was temporary, and his exit is not unexpected, but it comes a day after he criticised the legislative centrepiece of Trump’s agenda.
During the interview, Musk said that the Bill by US president would increase the federal deficit, and said that in his opinion, the Bill undermines the work of Doge.
“I think a bill can be big or it could be beautiful,” But I don’t know if it could be both, “Musk said.
BBC further reports that Musk, had clashed in private with some members of the Trump cabinet officials, after he pledged to cut at least $2 trillion from the federal government budget, before halving this target, then reducing it to $150bn.
His departures comes after Elon Musk helped lead a tumultuous drive to shrink the size of US government that saw thousands of federal jobs cut.
