A court in Marsabit has remanded six suspects in connection to the murder of a man in Loiyangalani Sub-County in Laisamis Constituency, for seven more days. The six suspects will be detained at Marsabit police station, to allow further investigations to be completed by the officers.
The decision comes after the investigation officer handling the case requested the court to have the six detained for 14 days, to allow for further investigations into the events that led to the death of the man on Monday last week.
However, Senior Chief Magistrate Christine Wekesa, allowed the suspects to be remanded for seven more days in custody. The six Timothy Ang’ate Mokaya, Anthony Ekal, Harriet Kendi, Sam Chebe, Kevin Nait and Rodin Jelinga, were arrested last week.
The investigation by the prosecution team will include an autopsy to determine the cause of the deceased death, as well as the DNA from the six suspects.
The body of the deceased was found outside a club in the area with head injuries on Monday morning, an incident that was reported by the club owner.
Loiyangalani Deputy Police Commander (DCC) Nicholas Mutua, confirmed the arrest of the main suspects on Monday evening, Timothy Nyag’ate, 31, and Anthony Ekal, 20, were arrested in the Kara Lagger area of Moite village, while fleeing towards Kalakol in the neighboring Turkana county.
According to Mutua, the suspects were evacuated from the scene of crime using a bodaboda operator, who was also detained to assist in the investigations. Mutua had earlier confirmed that the deceased businessman was hit by a blunt object, as there were stones around the scene.
He further assured the residents that security officers will be deployed in the area, to ensure that security is beefed up, and all entertainment joints are closed down by 11pm in the night, as the criminals are finding shelter in them and harming innocent residents.
