Kenya’s Elite Special Operations Group (SOG), killed four terrorists linked to Somalia militia group Al-Shabaan on Monday, June 2, morning.
According to reports by Counter Terrorism Policing Kenya, the militia were gunned down by Kenya officers at Najo and Guracho areas of Garissa County, after they were spotted by surveillance drone approaching the area by the SOG, who tracked their movements before successfully engaging with them.
“Our Al-Shabaab terrorists were neutralised by Kenya’s Elite Special Operations Group (SOG) early this morning, 2nd June 2025, in Najo and Guracho areas of Garissa County. The success followed a meticulously planned intelligence-led operation. The militants were first spotted by a surveillance drone, after which SOG units tracked and engaged them,” read the statement.
The statement indicated that there was a fierce exchange of gunshots, between the terrorists and the special police unit, before the SOG eliminated the four terrorists. Following the incident, AK-47 rifles, a PKM machine gun, multiple rounds of ammunition, and communication radios were recovered from the scene.

According to Counter Terrorism Policing Kenya, the success by SOG was attributed to coordinated operation, which aims to further weaken the activities of Al-Shabaab Militia group in the country. Additionally they urged residents to work together with SOG to ensure security is further boosted in the border county.
“This marks yet another major victory in a series of well-coordinated operations that continue to cripple Al-Shabaab activity. The SOG, in close collaboration with other security agencies and the local community, remains unwavering in its mission to safeguard the lives and security of Kenyans,” read the statement.
Earlier, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen said security installations in the country are on high alert following recent attacks orchestrated by Al-Shabaab militants.
