Marsabit County Commissioner James Kamau, has lauded high standards of disciple and good morals by schools sponsored and managed by the Catholic church.
Speaking during the marking of Education Day held at the Catholic Hall in Marsabit town, Kamau said that schools established by missionaries have been of great importance to the people of Marsabit, as students from such schools have good morals and discipline, which helps in promoting good values in the society.
Born and raised in a Catholic family, and further funded his education, Kamau commended the efforts by the Catholic Church for investing in the education sector, to ensure children in Marsabit have access to quality education, a major pillar in the development of the society.
“I can confidently say that all Catholic sponsored institutions have a very high standards of discipline and they perform very well. There are less cases of indiscipline in these schools. We appreciate efforts made by the Catholic Church in the education sector and urge you to continue in the same spirit,” Kamau said.
He further confirmed the move by government to resolve the conflict about official school uniforms in the county involving wearing of Hijab, Kamau stated that the government and ministry of education will have the relevant office take action regarding the issue.
“We understand that there are issues on the official attires in our schools especially here in Marsabit about Hijabs. The issue is under the stakeholders of education, and we believe that the matter will be sorted out, so that we continue coexisting peacefully and respecting all the regions within our county,” Kamau stated.
However, Kamau challenged teachers to continue instilling good morals to the students, which will help build a generation of well behaved and mannered children, for a prospering society in future.
“Our teachers let us ensure that we instill all available knowledge, skills and attitude to our students, so that they can propel to higher levels and have aspiration for a better future and society,” he urged.
His calls come as, education stakeholders and officials from KNUT and KUPPET in the county call for fair promotion of teachers in the county, so as not to demoralize the teachers in the region, hence affecting the quality of education in the county.
