Health officers in Marsabit County have made calls to residents of Boru Haro village to come out and register with the government’s health insurance fund Social Health Authority (SHA).
According to Thomas Ngangi a health officer in Marsabit, registration will ease burden of residents of accumulating medical bills and further easy access to healthcare services in the hospitals across the county.
Ngangi also commended efforts by Community Health Promoters (CHPs), elders and other public health officials in the area for creating awareness on the importance of toilets in the community and maintain cleanliness in the community.
“I can confirm that SHA is working in Marsabit County, I would like to urge the residents to register with SHA as it is working and it is helping Kenyans burdened with huge hospital bills . Enroll and start paying according to your ability that it can be of help when the situation is dire,” Ngangi urged.
During his Madaraka Day speech in Homabay at the Raila Odinga Stadium, President William Rut said that the government through the Ministry of Health has introduced Lipa SHA polepole, for citizens to pay their specific amount in installments. He further confirmed that over 23 million Kenyans have registered with government’s health insurance.
“23 million Kenyans have so far registered with the Social Health Authority (SHA) with average of 50,000 new registrations daily. Ministry of Health has introduced, LIPA SHA POLE POLE where The system is simple and accessible; citizens can dial *147# and follow the prompts to enroll and begin their contributions immediately,” Ruto started.
Despite concerns from Kenyans that the insurance is not working, Bishops from various counties have confirmed that SHA is working and urged Kenyans to register and access healthcare services with ease.
Additionally, Ngangi urged residents to take advantage of the move by government to scrap off the vetting process will applying for National identification Cards (ID), as well as the charges for first time applicants, as it will help in the registration of SHA.
“Registration of IDs is currently ongoing, the application process is free after the vetting process was lifted by President William Ruto and is happening everyday. Let us utilize this opportunity,” he urged.
