As pressure continues to mount on the government and police force to bring into books the murders of X blogger Albert Omondi Ojwang’, Tran Nzoia County 2027 senator aspirant Elijah Makoha, has called out young leaders for failing to publicly condemn the killing of the 31-year-old in the hands of the police.
According to Makokha, the leadership has failed in protecting the right to life of Kenyans, which is the mandate given to them by the people, following the death of Ojwang’ at the Central Police Station on June, Sunday 8 morning.
Makokha demanded that the National Police Service (NPS) through IG Douglas Kanja, should give Kenyans an explanation to the controversies surrounding the death of the blogger, as well as ensure that the family gets the justice they truly deserve for Ojwang’, through a speedy investigation into the matter.
“We want to call the investigative and security institutions to come out clearly led by IG Douglas Kanja to speed up the investigation and bring the culprits into book, as Albert deserves justice, we are demanding justice to his family. Kenyans should not die in the hands of the police, we have the freedom of speech and expression, what he did does not warrant a death sentence,” Makokha remarked.
He further dismissed the statement by NPS that Ojwang’ hit himself on cell walls, and was found unconscious when he was rushed to Mbagathi Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. According to him, the explanation by NPS is not satisfying, calling on human rights groups to continue mounting pressure until the investigative team gives a clear statement.
“I don’t believe the explanation given by NPS, I’m not satisfied we demand more information. Let the investigative institution come out clearly and human right groups to continue to mounting pressure until Albert is served with justice,” he further demanded.
Expressing his disappointment on the current Trans Nzoia senator Allan Chesang failing to callout the atrocity by the police towards Ojwang’, Makokha said it is sad for leaders elected by the people failing to come out and speak when the dissenting opinions are being silenced by the government.
“I have not heard any statement from Senator Allan Chesang condemning such act as a young leader, when dissenting young voices are being silenced we need to come out as leaders and condemn. It is now clear that as Kenyans we are on our own,” Makokha remarked.
His sentiments come as former police spokesperson Charles Owino has also raised questions on the over reliance of Kanja on the statement about the mysteries surrounding the death of the Migori blogger.
