Former president Uhuru Kenyatta has regained control of his Jubilee Party after the High Court authenticated key resolutions made during the party’s National Delegates Convention (NDC) in May 2023.
Milimani High Court Civic Division validated the resolution made at the 2023 ND, effectively overturning a previous decision by the Internal Disputes Resolution Committee (IDRC) that had nullified the NDC.
“The National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting and the National Delegates Convention (NDC) held on April 28 and May 22, 2023 respectively be and is hereby upheld and consequently the resolutions from the said National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting and National Delegates Convention (NDC) respectively be and are hereby upheld,” read the ruling.
The decision now giving Kenyatta full custody of the Jubilee Party, with Saitoti Torome confirmed as National Chairman and Jeremiah Kioni as Secretary General, approving the leadership earlier made at the NDC.
“The resolutions of the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting and the National Delegates Convention (NDC) held on 28th April and 22nd May 2023 respectively, be conveyed to the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) for adoption,” the court further confirmed.
Following the ruling Moses Kuria, senior economic advisor to the president congratulated the former president for taking over the party, challenging him he is tasked to unity the country.
“Congratulations my senior brother President Uhuru Kenyatta for winning back the control of Jubilee Party. At a time when there is a competition to burn Kenya through escalation, emotions and divisions, Jubilee Party under your stewardship has a major role to play in keeping Kenya safe . The future is luminous,” Kuria remarked.
The ruling affecting the EALA MP Kanini Kega fraction, that had sought to take over Jubilee from Uhuru, on Thursday agreed to implement the resolution reached upon by a Special National Delegates Convention (SNDC) in May 2023, where the former president was in attendance.
