Busia County Okiya Omtatah has called for the disbandment of the National Police Service (NPS), as following its recent disregard to human life and activities happening behind Kenyan cells.
According to Omutatah, the NPS has been meat to believe that they powers to kill, with the recent X blogger Albert Ojwang’s death at Central Police Station confirming the rotten acts by the police force.
Speaking on June, Monday 16, he said that the death of Ojwang’ has exposed their killings as they have failed to coil a narrative, usually involving planting guns and other materials including hard drugs next to the deceased to hide evidence.
“For the first time, the police have been caught with a corpse that they cannot frame, stage or create a narrative around. Unfortunately, we have got a police force that thinks it is allowed under the law to kill, to me the police needs to be disbanded especially the NPS, we need to disband it and reconstruct it from scratch it is rotten to the core” Omtatah remarked.
Narrating his ordeal in Giriri in December 2024, when he was put in a cell that was sprayed with Fungus, which caused a burning sensation across his body, claiming of warning given to him by an officer at the station to seek medical attention with urgency after he is released by the court.
“The things that happen in the cells are terrible. When I was arrested last year, I was put in a cell that was treated by Fungus, in an isolated cell at Kamkunji. I began feeling my skin burning, while heading to Milimani an officer approached me and told me to run to the hospital immediately I’m released, as the cell was treated with Fungus, I have wounds in the body to date, that is what they do,” Omtatah narrated.
He further stated that DIG Lagat cannot distance himself from the murder of Ojwang’, as the unjust orders he gave his officers are enough to warrant his resignation, demanding that he steps aside and wait for the investigations to cleanup his name.
He further faulted IPOA for trying to cover-up the case, and insisting that DIG Lagat will only resign after investigations implicates him in the case, he further alleged that the killing was done deliberately by the police.
“These are killers! They did this thing deliberately, there is no way Lagat can distance himself from the case, the heinous act is enough for a resignation. He is a suspect the biggest thing he can do is step aside and let investigations clean his name. IPOA, the theater of absurd says Lagat will step aside after investigations, basically what they are doing is covering up! It is not negotiable, he must resign first,” Omtatah demanded.
Pressure continues to mount for Lagat to resign, even when PS Raymond Omollo asks political leaders to stop politicising the unfortunate death, acknowledging that the Ojwang’ lost his life in the hands of the police.
