Residents in Marsabit held demonstrations at Marsabit Central Station and Marsabit Referral County Hospital, after a Miraa vendor was stabbed to death by three young men on Tuesday.
The angry residents demanded justice for the slain vendor, who was about his business when the unfortunate incident happened. According to witnesses, the three men approached the deceased demanded for free Miraa, before removing a knife and attacking him.
Angry residents who stormed the police station demanded the suspect to tell them the reason behind ending the businessman’s life, who had seemingly linked his death to tribal lines.
“They should tell us why they killed him, if he had their debt as Meru people we are going to pay, but lazima watuambiwe mbona wamemuua,” one of the protesters angrily lamented.
However, Marsabit Central Ward MCA Jack Elisha calming down the angry protesters, stated that the area is a home of over 14 communities, who have the freedom to contact their business in the area, and should not be worried about their existence in the county.
“This is a crime free ward, which has 14 communities living around, everyone in this ward has the freedom to conduct their business without the fear of being attacked. No one should be threatened,” Elisha clarified.
He further assured the residents that after the meeting with top county security officers including the County Commissioner, the OCPD Marsabit Central Police Station, that the suspects on the run must be arrested, while the one in custody to be arraigned in court for the family of the deceased to get justice.
He further urged those who witnessed the incident to come out and record their statements with the police, so that further actions can be taken against the perpetrators.
“If there is any challenge, we have sat down and agreed together with the county commissioner, OCPD, DCI and NIS that the suspects must be arrested, including those on the run. I want to urge anyone who witnessed the incident to record their statement, so that we can ensure the family of the late gets justice,” Elisha said.
The deceased was stabbed on the head, after which a knife stuck on his head, and died while receiving treatment at the Marsabit County Referral Hospital.
