Former Police Spokesperson Charles Owino has cautioned Kenyans against using violence to remove the government from power, over failed leadership.
Speaking during an interview with Citizen TV on Tuesday morning, Owino said that the violent protests witnessed in the country recently have gone out of order and become lawlessness, which according to him has prompted use of brutal force by the National Police Service (NPS) officers.
The former Police Spokesperson urged Kenyans who have issues with the police to report the cases through provided legal frameworks and channels, and not use violent means to condemn the acts of the police.
“The police have a responsibility of maintaining law and order. There is no space for anarchy and if somebody wants to cause anarchy in a way to remove those who are in offices, then you’d rather just become a gorilla and face the military,” Owino cautioned.
Owino further cautioned Kenyans for castigating the police, as they are the ones to keep the country safe, acknowledging that is not bad to point out when they are wrong, as it is the only discipline that cannot be hired.
“The police work for the social well-being of society every day. This is our country, we are not going to get another country and we are also not going to get another police service. Let us work together. It is not wrong to point where the police have made mistakes,” Owino further remarked.
Owino calla amidst a serious enmity between the members of the public and the police, after increased brutality among Kenyans, especially the youth who are currently demanding justice for slain X blogger Albert Ojwang’ who was killed by police at Central Police Station.
The Tuesday protests witnessing a worrying partnership between the police and goods who were captured chanting Nairobi governor’s name Johnson Sakaja, for successfully protecting, after receiving back up from the police, who watched as they loot, destroy businesses and properties and beating up protesters.
