Youths in Marsabit have been urged to remain calm and wait for the government to release the names of those shortlisted for the government’s Climate Workx Program, Climate Resilience Service Program (CRSP) that concluded recently.
According to Marsabit County Commissioner James Kamau, the shortlisted candidates will work in their respective wards, once they successfully go through the interviewing panel.
According to the register, the program attracted 13,000 youths from the county aged between 18-35 years-old, despite the county being given 800 slots. The Climate Workx is aimed at providing employment to unemployed youths graduate across the country.
While the primary focus is on youth, in areas where young people are unwilling to take up the jobs, older individuals may be considered, provided they meet other criteria.
The program previously known as Kazi Mtaani was introduced by former president Uhuru Kenyatta, before being reintroduced on June 1, Madaraka Day by President William Ruto, who stated that the program aims to not only offer employment, but also combat the adverse effects of climate change.
The program further aims to give 200,000 youths across the 46 counties except Nairobi, to work in various environmental departments in their counties.
“Kazi Mtaani is outdated now; the work now is building these houses, and the first people to get jobs in this project will be from Kibra. The 500 youths per ward hired in the Kazi Mtaani Programme will be used to construct these homes. You asked for job opportunities; here they are,” President William Ruto earlier stated.
However, the head of state made a change of mind, after he admitted that it was time to bring back the Programme to complement other youth empowerment initiatives, currently in the country.
The youths will be required to work for 10 days shift, with general workers getting a stipend of KSh 500 per day, as the supervisors get KSh 580 per day; all payments will be made through mobile money (M-Pesa).
