National Assembly Deputy Speaker directed her attacks yesterday to Former chief Justice David Maraga, for participating in the Wednesday, June 25, anniversary protests in Nairobi.
Maraga was in company of families of the June 24 protests, who were marching in peace before the police lobbied teargas at them, around Nation Centre during the protests. She called out Maraga for misleading the youths, while he is enjoying the benefits from the government through his pension.
“Shame on you chief justice David Maraga, you are currently on pension paid by the government they pay for your cars and go to the streets to mislead our children to destroy properties. Someone of your caliber? Shame on you Maraga,” Shollei said.
Shollei further congratulated the police officers for a job well done during the the protests, in protecting the country, stating that what was witnessed was not peaceful protests, but acts of hooliganism by people disguised as peaceful protesters.
She called on Kenyans to ensure that their right to peaceful protest as articulated in the Constitution of Kenya, does not infringe on the rights of others.
“I want to congratulate the police for keeping peace of this country. What happened yesterday was not demonstrations, they were not peaceful demonstrations, they were acts of hooliganism by criminals who destroyed people’s property. Your right for protesting does not include destroying people’s property. As Kenyans, we should understand that one’s right ends, where another person’s right begins,” she further remarked.
Kenya Kwanza leaders have continued to link the protests to opposition leaders, and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua for the massive destructions and deaths witnessed in the protests, remarks which Gachagua has refuted, stating that the government planted the goons to destroy properties and later pin the blame on peaceful Gen Z protesters.
Shollei remarks follow allegations by Embu County governor Cecily Mbarire, who accused the former DP for orchestrating violence in the county through sponsoring goons, who destroyed properties in Kiritiri and Embu Town, during the Wednesday protests.
