A suspect in the murder of a miraa trader in Marsabit has been arraigned in the Marsabit court today, before Judge Frances Rayola.
The accused, Ayala Makura Mamo, is alleged to have committed the murder on June 17 at the Karare bus station in Marsabit town. However, he has denied the charges against him.
Through his lawyer, the suspect has requested to be released on bail. In response, Judge Frances Rayola directed that the request be submitted to the probation office to assess whether the suspect is suitable for bail.
A psychiatric evaluation has confirmed that the suspect, Mamo, is mentally fit to stand trial for the murder charges.
The case will be mentioned again on July 15 this year, when the court will decide whether or not the suspect will be granted bail.
