The Senate Standing committee on Roads, Transportation, Housing led by the Chairperson Senator Oketch Eddy, conducted an oversight visit to Marsabit County to assess the ongoing infrastructure and healthcare developments, who were accompanied by the County Senator Mohamed Chute, is a member of the Committee.
The visit is part of the committee’s nationwide mandate to evaluate the effectiveness and progress of critical development projects across counties. During the visit, the Committee began with accessing the Marsabit County Teaching and Referral Hospital, a key healthcare facility in the region.
The senators inspected the KMTC Marsabit Campus, which is training medical professionals, as well as the hospital’s Oxygen Plant a vital role in patient care, particularly in emergency and respiratory cases.
To further boost healthcare in the County, the National Government approved a budgetary allocation for the construction of Moyale KMTC, which was bein lobbied by area MP Guyo Jaldesa, and area security team and leaders are scouting for a better place for the institution to be constructed.
The Oketch led Committee also visited the unrest Loiyangalani Sub-County, where they conducted a site inspection of the Loyangalani Roads. These roads have been significantly impacted by the rising waters of Lake Turkana, leading to portions being submerged and creating major accessibility challenges for local residents and transport operators.
Further into the visit, the committee received a comprehensive briefing on the status and operations of the Sololo Level IV Hospital. The presentation provided insight into the capacity and challenges facing healthcare delivery in the region, especially in remote and underserved communities.
The oversight visit underscores the Senate’s commitment to ensuring that infrastructure and healthcare projects funded through public resources are not only progressing as planned but are also delivering tangible benefits to local populations. The committee is expected to compile its findings and make recommendations to relevant government bodies to address identified challenges and accelerate development efforts in Marsabit County.
Earlier, leaders from the region led by Governor Mahmoud Ali, who called on leaders from the region to support Kenya Kwanza Government to receive more developments in the region, as well as maintain peace to attract investors.
