The National Police Police Service (NPS) confirmed the arrest of suspects linked to looting and destruction of properties in Nyandarua County during the Wednesday, June 25 anniversary protests.
In a statement on June, Sunday 29, NPS confirmed arrest of 11 individuals linked to the raid, in Huruma and Vatican areas of Ol’Kalou Township. A number of suspects have been arrested with items believed to have been stolen during the protests.
” National Police Service (NPS) officers conducted a successful intelligence-led operation in the early hours of Sunday, 29 June 2025, in the Huruma and Vatican areas of Ol’Kalou Township. During the operation, eleven suspects were arrested, some of whom were found in possession of items believed to have been stolen during the demonstrations on 25 June 2025,” read the statement.
NPS further confirmed that the 11 suspects remained in their custody as they appeared in court on June 30, to face charges of destruction property and possession of stolen property.
“All suspects are currently in police custody, pending processing and court arraignment. Meanwhile, the recovered items have been secured as evidence at the same facility,” read the statement
On Saturday, Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), confirmed the arrest of 24 suspects linked with destruction of Kikuyu Law Courts and burning of Kikuyu Sub-County Offices, who were arraigned at the Ruiru Law Courts in Kiambu County.
While 21 suspects were apprehended and arraigned on charges of shop breaking, stealing and handling stolen goods in Nyeri County. Of these, 10 pleaded guilty and their case is set for mention on July 2, 2025, for facts reading. The remaining 11 who pleaded not guilty to the charges were released on Sh100,000 bond with the case coming up for mention on July 10, 2025.
During his address to the Nation, Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen assured Kenyans whose property were destroyed during the protests that the government will ensure all those involved in the looting of businesses are arrested and charged.
