A somber mood engulfed Ridgeways Baptist Church in Kiambu County as Albert Ojwang’s mother broke down while giving tribute to her son killed by police at Central Police Station in Nairobi in June 5.
The mother who lost her only surviving son in the hands of those mandated to protect him could not bare the pain of his son laying in casket, a son she described as her only hope for his care towards her and her husband.
“I never knew that Albert made it possible through his death. My son you have broken my heart never to be the same again. He cared for me so much,” she painfully narrated.
Mama Albert recounting her mornings with her son Ojwang’, who loved tea so much, and how she took care of them while he was away in Malindi, and constantly called to ensure they have enough at home.
“He would come in the morning and ask for tea before heading out to charge his phone, and leave behind a coin for me to get something for yourself. Even while in Malindi he could sense we have not eaten and send me money for food the next day,” she said.
In the midst of her breakdown, the bereaved mother apologized to her late son for releasing him for the police who, picked him up after he served him lunch, in a worrying tone telling his mother of not getting involved in any mischief. She expressed her pain, as she is still not yet to come in terms that she’s picking her son dead.
“He did not do eat, as the police arrived immediately, he trembled and said Mom I have not done anything, and went with him, now I’m taking my son’s dead body with me,” she narrated in the midst of her breakdown.
Emotions were high as the mother could not hold back her tears, as she released her son to the police who took her joy of life away. The family called on Kenyans to pray for her as she comes to the harsh reality of the death of her son.
