Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has unveiled the provisional squad for the Harambee Stars ahead of the upcoming 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), set to take place in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda. The list, dominated by home-based talents, reflects a strong mix of experience and rising stars determined to impress on the continental stage.
Goalkeepers
The goalkeeping department features Faruk Shikhalo, Sebastian Wekesa, and Brian Opondo. Shikhalo, a familiar face in Kenya’s goalkeeping ranks, brings experience and leadership to the squad.
Defenders
The defensive line boasts a balanced blend of strength and agility, with Siraj Mohammed, Manzur Suleiman, and Pamba Swaleh among the standouts. Veteran fullback Abud Omar makes a return, joined by Alphonse Omija, Sylvester Owino, and Michael Kibwage. Daniel Sakari, Lewis Bandi, and Kevin Okumu complete the defensive unit.
Midfielders
Kenya’s midfield will be anchored by dynamic players like Brian Musa and Kelly Madada. Keith Imbali and Alpha Onyango are expected to add creativity and control in the middle, while Mathias Isogoli, Staphod Odhiambo, Austine Odhiambo, and Ben Stanley offer depth and versatility.
Forwards
In attack, head coach Engin Firat will have a wide range of options. Mohammed Bajaber, Boniface Muchiri, and David Sakwa lead the line-up, with Emmanuel Osoro and Yakeen Muteheli adding pace and flair. Edward Omondi, Ryan Ogam, Moses Shummah, and Beja Nyamawi round out a forward line filled with potential.
With CHAN 2024 just around the corner, this squad will enter camp to begin preparations for what is expected to be a highly competitive tournament. Unlike the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), CHAN is exclusively reserved for players active in domestic leagues, making it a key platform for showcasing local talent.
Kenya will be aiming to make a mark, especially as one of the tournament’s co-hosts. The squad’s composition suggests a serious intent to build a cohesive, competitive side that can go deep into the competition.
