A section of elders from Mt. Kenya East have send a stern warning to former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua over his attacks towards Deputy President Kithure Kindiki.
Speaking during a declaration made in Runyenjes Embu County, the elders drawn from the Njuri Ncheke (Meru and Tharaka Nithi), Nyangi Ndiriri (Embu) and Ngome (Mberu) councils, have thrown their support behind Kindiki and accused Gachagua for jeopardizing national unity for his political advantage.
Meru region chairman of the council of elders Adriano Aruyaru, demanded that Kindiki shuld not only be respected as an elder of Njuri Ncheke, but as a symbol of national unity, he attributed to his office as the DP.
“Kithure Kindiki is not only the Deputy President of Kenya, but also a respected elder of Njuri Ncheke. He must be treated with dignity and stature command,” said Aruyaru.
Aruyaru’s statement was backed over 3,000 elders from the Meru, Isiolo, and Tharaka Nithi counties, further widening the the division of elders from the Gachagua and Kindiki fractions.
The elders further reinforced their earlier declaration Izaak Walton Declaration made in September 15, 2024, where the elders publicly withdrew their support for former DP, and endorsed Kindiki as the regional and national spokesperson.
“Gachagua should stop the insults towards Kindiki. He says Kindiki’s voice lacks bass, but when Kindiki speaks the country listens, and that is what is important,” he added.
They further lauded the National Assembly for impeaching Gachagua, and immediate endorsement of Kindiki, which they claimed that the move had restored dignity and order in national leadership.
According to the elders, the council only works with the government of the day, shutting the advances being made by 2027 political aspirants trying woo the region of their votes. Aruyaru said that the council does not recognize opposition.
“Whoever becomes president becomes our president. We do not play opposition politics. Wait for the ballot in 2027,” he firmly said.
The leaders further praised Kindiki’s leadership in his less that a year scorecard, noting that his efforts to unite the region and championing for grassroots development and empowerment, further recognizing his duties to restore the dignity of public service.
He further said Njuri Ncheke will defend Kindiki against any attack from political attacks, further claiming that the fight towards Kindiki is a fight against the council. They urged the DP to ignore the destruction and focus in uniting Mt. Kenya East and West.
The new declaration further increasing political rivalry between the two, as Gachagua constantly hitting on his successor for abandoning his duties as DP, and being reduced to a guest of honour in unfair targeted empowerment programs across the country.
