Ahead of Senate plenary hearing of Isiolo governor Abdi Guyo impeachment on Tuesday and Wednesday, elders and political bigwigs drawn from Isiolo, Marsabit and Tana River counties have demanded immediate removal of Guyo in office.
The elders led by Balozi Kalapata, accused Guyo for massive abuse of office, and ferrying goons from Nairobi, which he said threatens the peace of the county.
“In Isiolo we are under intimidation, as Governor has ferried goons from Nairobi, sasa akileta wakora hapa, Isiolo itakuwa yetu ama ya watu wa Nairobi? ” Kalapata said.
He pleaded with President William Ruto not to interfere with the impeachment process, as the people of Isiolo have rejected him, following his recent acts the people and Members of County Assembly (MCAs), as well as the allocation set for Isiolo as a county is diverted to his personal issues in Nairobi.
According to him, the County Assembly acted in accordance with the law, as he had violated a number of sections and acts, leading to a massive impeachment from MCAs.
“As Isiolo, we have rejected our governor, there is no money coming to Isiolo, all the money remains in Nairobi. We will say this without fear that our people have been disadvantaged in all forms. That is why the County Assembly acted in favour for his removal,” he explained.
Kalapata further stated that Isiolo County is in a leadership crisis that has affected the functioning of the county, citing the chaotic events that followed after the County Assembly approved his impeachment, goons stormed the County Assembly causing massive destruction inside the chambers.
Kalapata further claimed that Guyo had ferried goons from Nairobi to heckle the president during his tour of the region earlier this year
“We are asking the president to support the law that is Constitutional, by standing with the people of Isiolo. The other time when the community of Isiolo heckled the president, it was the same goons who heckled were brough to heckle. We will not allow that, a person who mismanaged our resources, disrespect to our elders and disregard to our political goodwill to lead ask,” he boldy remarked.
He called on the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Mohamed Amin to investigate Guyo, over unlawful acts in the county, including the destruction of County Assembly Chambers. He further accused Guyo of appointing personnel that do not understand their duties.
“The Senate fully understand the cost of misappropriation of county resources, Guyo cannot explain even a single thing on appropriation of the budget, they cannot do anything! Even the Chief Officers he politically appointed, they are unprofessional, they cannot execute the county development resources. As people of Isiolo we don’t Abdi Guyo as our governor, he should go back to where he was,” he further stated.
