Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga has called out leaders using the current Gen Z wave to advance their political agendas, asking leaders to stop blocking the young people from tabling their grievances.
Odinga’s remarks directly hitting to the opposition leaders, who have been in support of the recent series of protests against poor governance, enforced disappearances, abductions and police brutality, which they have taken advantage as a path to advance their political careers.
“The political class does not seize the agenda of Gen Zs for their own purpose, let the Gen Zs put their agenda up and let us try our best to solve the issues which are being raised by our young people without killing them, we don not want our people killed,” he said.
He further added that Kenya is a democratic state governed by systems and rules, which contacts elections after every five years, and those planning to oust President William Ruto to come with agenda to persuade the people of Kenya in 2027. Odinga faulted the government for using force to deal with the young people.
Expressing his support for the Gen Z movement, dismissed protests meant to loot, destroy properties and deaths witnessed during protests, as uncalled for.
“This country belongs to all of us as Kenyans, We don not want to destroy our country I support the Gen Zs, but I do not support the loss of life and property. What we must support is democracy, we must realize that Kenya is a democracy system there are elections which come every 5 years . If you are given mandate to serve, as stated in the constitution if you fail to serve well people will defeat you from election, by giving to people with agenda on how to solve issues affecting the country,” he added.
His remarks earlier echoed by Homabay County governor Gladys Wanga, who called on the opposition to come with agenda and stop propagating politics of hatred and tribalism, and blasted them for lacking an agenda for the country.
