Isiolo South MP Mohamed Tubi has accused Governor Abdi Guyo for trying to bribe the Senate to influence ruling on his impeachment. Mohamed Tubi X.
A day after defending Members of County of Assembly (MCA) for impeaching Isiolo governor Abdi Guyo, Isiolo South MP Mohamed Tubi has accused Governor Guyo for allegedly attempting to misuse public funds to influence the Senate regarding his impeachment.
While addressing the press on Sunday, Tubi said Guyo is on the rush to use county allocated funds to bribe the Senate to deliver ruling in his favour. He added that the embattled governor has learnt the act of hooliganism, but however said his efforts are not enough to take the Senate down.
“The Governor has learnt to be a goon. He is trying to interfere with every process. He is now attempting to use county money to influence the Senate. But we know the Senate is a house of integrity, it cannot be bought,” Tubi stated.
Tubi further appealed to the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK), to withheld any county disbursement funds, until the Senate hearing of Guyo is resolved.
“We are asking the CBK Governor not to release a single cent to Isiolo County. Let the matter be fully determined before any public money is accessed,” he pleaded.
His remarks come amid heightened political tension in Isiolo, following the Governor’s impeachment by the County Assembly, on gross misconduct, misuse of public funds and violation of the Leadership Act as articulated in the Constitution.
On Saturday, Tubi accused the Guyo for intimidating MCAs, despite being aware that the removal of governor from office is clearly stated in the Constitution, and should thus stop criminalizing MCAs in Isiolo.
“Democracy is not a crime, impeachment is not treason, and MCAs are not criminals. This a process clearly enshrined in the Constitution of the country. Oversight and checks and balances are the pillars of governance. We must protect our democracy, not punish it,” the legislator asserted.
On Tuesday, Guyo’s hearing will begin in the Senate plenary, after they agreed to have the full house to hear allegations levied against him by MCAs. Guyo is accused of failing to deliver the Sate of County Address for three years he has been in office, as well as employing 36 Chief Officers, despite county having six departments.
