Former Police Spokesperson Charles Owino has accused 15 influencers for being leaders, mobilizers and planners of the Gen Z protests in the country.
Speaking during an online interview with Fred Ogweno, Owino said that social media in the country is being run by the 15 vocal individuals managing, controlling and inciting Gen Zs to take to the streets for protests.
According to Owino, the 15 include, activists Boniface Mwangi and Hanifa Adan, Propesa TV, Amerix, Kimuzi, Francis Gaitho, Nairobi senator Edwin Sifuna, among others, for using their massive following to influence protests in the country among the young generation.
Owino faulted the influencers for using their popularity and organic following to cause chaos in the country, with some of the influencers yet to respond to the allegations raised by Owino Owino, who said they are not even Gen Zs.
“The social media in this country is managed by 15 handles. There are 15 people who manage, they have serious followers, I can tell you some of them go and check at Hanifa Farsafi, Boniface Mwangi, C Nyakundi, Kimuzi, Amerix, Francis Gaitho, Soko Analyst, W Mutunga, Wangechi, Edwin Sifuna, Benja Ndolo, Propesa, thes are the 15 handlers managing social media and non of the is a Gen Z, these are people who spread, mobile the Gen Zs,” Owino claimed.
In his response, Propesa remarked on the false allegations by Owino, question who made them the leaders of the Gen Z movement.
“Charles Owino is falsely claiming that Propesa and 14 other X accounts are among the mobilizers and leaders of Gen Z . Surely sisi ni leaders wa nani and who made us the leaders?” Propesa responded to the claims.
Earlier, the former Police Spokesperson had accused comedian Tumbili for planning and mobilizing to march at Mawego police station in Homabay with youths from X blogger Albert Ojwang’s body , that later resulted in the torching of the station.
Owino has recently made controversial remarks regarding the protests. During a televised interview, he claimed that the late mask vendor Boniface Kariuki shot at close range by police officers during protests in June, abused the officers who responded by shooting him on the head.
