People’s Liberation Party (PLP) party leader Senior Counsel Martha Karua has hinted of President William Ruto not being ready for the 2027 general elections, following recent responses from of Kenya Kwanza government.
Speaking during a televised interview on Tuesday, Karua blasted Ruto’s administration over callous handling of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC). She accused President Ruto for orchestrating the exit of previous commissioners, leaving the commission in crisis.
She also said the president has using delay tactics in the reconstruction of the IEBC, which constitutionally has violated the requirements of the Constitution, which calls for IEBC to be in place two years before the elections.
Further, Karua mentioned the embattled KSh 1.2 billion mega church that is being planned to be constructed at State House by the President, who said the church will not cost taxpayers money, but further contravenes the Constitution, as Kenya is a secular a State.
“I look at President William Ruto, I see a man who is not ready to to elections! He denies the country IEBC, everything he is doing is as if he has a title deed to State House, why would he build a church there?”Karua questioned.
According to her, the presidency has limits as articulated in the constitution, and can be withdrawn any time. He blatantly told the head of state the Gen Z led protests in 2024, during the Anti-Finance Bill protests, and he should closely reconsider his leadership, as the government’s legitimacy was snatched last year.
“Being in elected is not a title deed which you wave in our faces, there is a term limit which can also be withdrawn. Dr. Ruto should consider that the Gen Zs fired him last year, he is on borrowing time to correct his mistakes, but he is adding insult to the country,” she further remarked.
She Kenya Kwanza government to make a turn round and change from its current course, reminding them that the power is with the people, who are entitled to terminate it anytime, further awakening the one-term slogan being championed by the united opposition.
“Kenyans have the power to terminate the contract earlier,. If you want to meet us on the ballot, change your ways, you and your illegitimate rogue regime,” she stated.
Karua’s remarks coming after President William Ruto said that there will be no Kenya without him, terming the remarks as an intimidation and cause panic among Kenyans.
She called on Kenyans to remain united to secure the country from falling into turmoil, further refuting dialogue calls by former prime minister Raila Odinga, stating it lacks the interest of Kenyans, but serves the interest of few individuals.
