Mandera Senator Ali Roba and United Democratic Movement (UDM), has faulted the Senate for dismissing impeachment case against Isiolo Governor Abdi Guyo prematurely on Tuesday, July 8.
According to Roba, the issueds raised by the County Assembly of Isiolo should have been substantiated, before terminating it without hearing, thus impairing the course for the people of Isiolo.
Roba further argued that the county is in turmoil and lawlessness witnessed, which he attributed to be orchestrated by Governor Guyo, with no signs of the situation coming to an end.
“Justice can only be served if we examine the substance of the case to its logical conclusion, rather than killing it before it even starts. The saddest part is that, whether the governor is impeached or not, Isiolo County is in a very desperate situation. That situation will not improve under the lawlessness that has prevailed in the county,” Roba argued.
Roba who opposed the motion, argued that the Senate was trying to close down the case even before the case begins, despite evidence being provided for each allegation against Guyo by the County Assembly, which could be proven during the hearing process.
“What we are trying to do here is to shut down the case before it has even begun, yet the same issues could be fully explored during the substantive hearing. The key question is whether the Senate can extensively hear the case and determine if it has been substantiated based on the evidence presented before us,” he added.
He emphasized that Guyo’s case could have been had a better outcome if the evidence could have been heard by the Senate. Similar sentiments were held by Kericho Senator and Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot , who called on the Senate to allow full hearing of the process, as the allegations by Guyo were clearly highlighted.
“There are serious allegations that must be addressed. I will propose that we amend our Standing Order to ensure future impeachment processes do not end prematurely,” Cheruiyot remarked.
During the motion, 31 senators voted against dismissal of the case, as it was not validated whether the County Assembly had held sittings on June 18 and 26, 2025 on motion of impeachment on removal of Governor Abdi Guyo from office.
