zFormer Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has dismissed claims by President William Ruto that the opposition are planning to overthrow him in an attempt on Monday, July 7 during commemoration of the Saba Saba day.
Gachagua asked the president to relax, as no one is planning to remove him from State House unconstitutionally through the One-Term movement, but want to meet him and humiliate him in the 2027 August General election.
He said nobody in his team is planning a coup against the Kenya Kwanza government, as they are not in that capacity, but will ensure he serves one term and remove him constitutionally from office.
“One Term movement is not planning to get you out of power unconstitutionally, Mr. President nobody is planning to throw your or your government out of power unconstitutionally. Please relax, we want you to serve your on term, nobody wants you out of government. We want to face you on the ballot in August 2027, so relax and stop crying off. Nobody is planning a coup. We want to humiliate you at the ballot,” Gachagua refuted,
According to him, the coup is a narrative by the head of state to frustrate the opposition and Kenyans using the Terrorism Act by profiling them, as they are opposers of his government.
“This narrative your creating that there is an attempt to throw you from government is an opportunity to use the Terrorism Act to profile communities and persecute leaders who are opposed to your administration,” Gachagua further stated.
Gachagua aiming further to his former asked him that his removal from office could either be through his volition to resign and not unconstitutional means and further warned him about the dangerous narrative, urging Kenyans not to be lured by the disregard of democracy by Kenya Kwanza government
“Let us not be deceived, what we are witnessing is not the rule of law but the rule of fear. This is not the behaviour of a government that serves its people. This is an outright machinery of dictatorship ,” Gachagua said.
Earlier while commissioning housing units in Kilimani, Ruto said that a failed coup was being planned on Saba Saba disguised as peaceful protests.
