Cabinet Secretary Youth Affairs, the Creative Economy, and Sports, Salim Mvurya, has announced that Kenya is ready to host African Nations Championship (CHAN), starting August 2-30, as current focus is on security arrangements.
Kenya will jointly host the continental competition with Uganda and Tanzania. He assured those planning to attend the match including international teams and officials, for the tournament will not encounter any visa-related issues.
Mvurya further stating that the Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) exemption has already been gazetted and officially granted. According to him, the delegation of duties to each committee for did a simulation exercise to ensure everything runs smoothly.
“Already we have announced travel arrangements where the ETA exemption has already been gazetted and granted and therefore we don’t expect any challenges on Visa requirements for those who will be coming here for the tournament,” said Mvurya.
He further confirmed that key issues had already been handled, with the ministry doing final preparations in readiness of the tournament. Mvurya revealed that an orientation meeting for security personnel will be held on July 16 to test the country’s preparedness.
“We have already done a simulation on matters of security and on the 16 of July we will have a big on security where we will continue to orient,” he disclosed.
With few weeks to the tournament, the world of sport will have its eyes on East African, to see their preparedness to host the 2027 African Cup of Nations (AFCON), with CHAN acting as a curtain raiser for the region.
Mvurya called on Kenyans to exercise patriotism during the much awaited and anticipated tournament, as it not only portrays the country’s world sport, but opens up economic opportunities for the country.
