Chief Justice Martha Koome has led the nation, the Muslim community, and the judiciary in mourning Chief Kadhi of Kenya Sheikh Abdulhalim Hussein, who passed on early Thursday 10 morning in Mombasa County.
In her message of condolence, Koome described Sheikh Hussein as a champion of justice, who worked with unwavering commitment to ensure that justice is rightly served with equity, fairness his service, especially in laws touching the Muslim community.
“I extend our heartfelt condolences to the family of the Late Chief Kadhi, the Muslim community in Kenya, and all those whose lives were touched through his service and leadership. Sheikh Abdulhalim Hussein served the Judiciary and the people of Kenya with unwavering dedication, humility and integrity. As Chief Kadhi, he was a champion of justice, fairness and equity, particularly in matters of personal law within the Muslim community,” she condoled.
Koome noted in her message that his death leaves an irreplaceable expertise not only to the judiciary but also the nation. She further Hussein as a principled spiritual leader, who championed for peace and respect for diversity in the country.
“His passing is a great loss not only to the nation but to the entire country. We remember and honour him as a deeply spiritual and principled leader who championed peaceful coexistence, respect for diversity and harmony in our society,” Koome further stated.
ODM party leader Raila Odinga has also mourned the fallen Chief Kadhi, sending message to the judiciary and his family.
“Our Chief Kadhi of Kenya, Sheikh Abdulhalim Hussein, has rested. May Allah grant his soul eternal peace. Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un My sincere condolences to his family, friends, and the Muslim community,” Odinga wrote.
In his message, President William Ruto described him as a great scholar, who was committed to serve humanity with his unmatched wisdom and charisma.
“We join the Muslim community in mourning the passing of Chief Kadhi Sheikh Abdulhalim Hussein. Sheikh Abdulhalim devoted his life to the service of humanity and led the Muslim faithful with unwavering dedication, humility and wisdom. He will be remembered as a great Islamic scholar who was committed to justice. We pray that Allah brings comfort to his family and the entire Muslim community at this time of sorrow,” Ruto mourned the late Chief Kadhi.
