Principal Secretary Basic Education Julius Bitok has confirmed the Ministry plans to interdict Alliance Girls’ High School teacher accused of sexual abuse by students.
Bitok confirmed that the Ministry of Education has reached out and engaged the teachers employer Teachers Service Commission (TSC), and security agents to have the teacher interdicted and prosecuted over his actions.
The PS speaking during a thanksgiving ceremony in Nandi County at Kapkoros Barngetuny Secondary School, Bitok called for immediate arrest and persecution of the teacher.
He said that as a Ministry they will not tolerate teachers and other education stakeholders taking advantage of the students to provide them services they are mandated to do, further condemning the act.
“We are not going to condone any behaviour where teachers or any other stakeholder in schools take advantage of our children. We want to condemn in the strongest terms possible any conduct by teachers, staff, or anyone in the school community who seeks to exploit students sexually. As government, we are saying such behaviour will not be tolerated,” Bitok stated.
His remarks coming as former students of Alliance staged protests around the school demanding the arrest and suspension of the accused teacher on Thursday afternoon. The issue went viral after he was exposed online by a number of student and staffs of his exploitation and sexual advances to students, being hidden by the institution.
Women rights groups including FIDA weighed into the issue for the school failing to take action even after tow formal complaints were filed in 2018 and 2021. They described the incident as shocking.
However, Bitok stated that the matter is not limited to Alliance Girls, but across other schools across the country, sending a stern warning to institutions across the country of perpetrators of such actions will be met with immediate and firm actions.
“It is not only in Alliance. Even in any other school in the country, that behaviour must stop hence forth. Anyone found in such acts will be met with firm and immediate charges,” Bitok emphasized.
