Social media went a blaze on Saturday after it emerged that Deputy Inspector General Eliud Lagat is set to return to his official duty at Vigilante House on Monday, July 14.
In a viral revelation made on X, Kenyans did not take the news lightly, as they faulted the justice system in the country and impunity at the National Police Service.
The Director of Public Prosecutions is said to have dropped the charges against Lagat, who was adversely mention in the murder of Homabay X bloggger Albert Ojwang’, who died at Central Police Station in Nairobi.
The late Ojwang’ is said to have been picked by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), from his home on June 6, after Lagat made defamation complaint against him, which was made by the late on his official social media account according to Inspector General of police (IG) Douglas Kanja.
Taking on social media to challenge the information, expressed their anger of Lagat’s return, as the family continues to live in pain and further showing the disregard of the constitution and human life by the administration.
Here are some of the reactions;
“Eliud Lagat is reporting back to work at Vigilance House, On Monday, 14th July, 2025. Si washazika Ojwang na his dad akasifu Ruto? Ndio some of the painful realities they’re trying to water down by calling for dialogue, In the name of intergenerational conclave. I reject,” Maverick Aoko said.
“Kidagaa kinatuozea. So lagat is resuming duty on 14th July because because Ojwang’s body is already decomposing in Mawego,” Allan Ademba said.
“Naona mnakasirika eti Eliud Lagat anarudi job Monday. The guy never left. He has been working. This is him las week at Marich Pass in West Pokot County after being escorted by an armored vehicle from Kaleng in Turkana County,” Kinara said.
“So Eliud Lagat has weathered the storm I see. The cop who initiated a civil process dressed in criminal clothing that led to the gruesome murder of Albert Ojwang by the very cops under Lagat‘s command is back at work He never left by the way that was all smoke and mirrors,” said Kang’ethe on X.
“Ahsante kwa chai moto, this is another motive for maandamano, the very word that keeps them awake all night! We REJECT killer Eliud Lagat from returning back to office which he didn’t leave anyway, stepping aside was to delude us. May Ojwang’s spirit haunt him!!” Jayden Gold.
After calls from the public, Lagat stepped aside to allow for investigation to take place, and was later summoned by Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) to record a statement on the matter, however, his statement was not public.
