President William Ruto’s daughter Charlene Ruto has claimed that former Prime Minister Raila Odinga intergenerational dialogue was not his original idea but hers.
In a viral video that circulated online on Charlene dismisses that Raila was not the first person to call for the intergenerational dialogue in the country to end animosity between gen Zs ad Gen X.
“Right Honourable Raila Odinga calls to bring a generational talk,” she posed. ” Right Honourable Raila Odinga was not the first person to call for intergenerational talks, it was me, he copied me. I am the one who had called for the intergenerational talks,” Charlene is heard saying in the video.
After the deadly Saba Saba July 7 protests, Raila in his address after failing to access historic Kamkunji Grounds to commemorate the day, called for intergenerational dialogue, dubbed National Conclave.
Odinga proposed the Conclave, which is aimed to at setting a new, inclusive direction for the country, with representation of 40 carefully selected representatives from across all 47 counties to reflect diverse voices and guide the nation toward meaningful reforms.
However, Raila’s calls have received harsh criticism, with his opposers arguing that the two dialogues he signed with President William Ruto, NADCO report and 10 point agenda MOU have not been implemented, and he is calling out for another dialogue.
The leaders including former DP Rigathi Gachagua said that the country does not need dialogue, but implementation of the constitution, which has been hugely violated by Kenya Kwanza government. Gachagua said that Odinga was an opportunist, with the proposed dialogue only meant to benefit him.
His colleague in the opposition Fred Matiang’i adding that there is nothing new the president needs to be told, as the Gen Z protects in the streets already communicated, and there is nothing new to be said on the dialogue.
“What will he listen to from me if he is not listening to the people? There is nothing new,” he declared
