In latest statement about murder suspect Kennedy Kalombotole, released by Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH), says that Kalombotole is homeless and has been a long patient at the hospital.
According to KNH, the suspect was first admitted at the facility in November 2022 into Intensive Care Unit (ICU), an later discharged to the general ward, as stated by CEO Dr. William Sigilai.
“Being a homeless person with no known relatives nor proven identity, he stayed on in the hospital, even as the hospital made several attempts to identify him through fingerprint identification and also through our social media pages,” Sigilai stated.
In December 2024, KNH was able to secure Kalombotole a home where the suspect was discharged. However, Sigilai stated that he was later readmitted at the hospital when he fell ill, and discharged for the secured home he stayed to decline readmitting him back over unknown reasons.
“Upon discharged, the home that previously hosted declined to take him back for unknown reasons. In the interim the suspect remained in KNH as we tried to look for alternative accommodation,” he further stated.
However, the DCI had flagged Kalombotole as a person interest after the death of 39-year-old Gilbert Kinyua in February, and advised the hospital management to continue holding him until investigations into the case was concluded. Sigilai said the facility is still waiting for the outcome of the previous incident.
“We emphasized that the suspect had been discharged, and the hospital did not intend or desire to host him indefinitely. However, in the absence of alternative options and pending direction from investigating agencies, we had no choice but to continue with his stay in the hospital,” he stated.
Sigilai said a postmortem will be conducted on the deceased to determine the cause of the death, further affirming their cooperation with the facility during investigations and comply with the recommendations that will come up after their findings.
Kalombotole is linked to death of Edward Ndegwa inside ward 7B, whom he slit his through on July, Thursday 17 at around 14oohours, with the motive of his actions still under investigation.
Homicide detectives nabbed him yesterday night after blood stains were discovered on blue slippers.
