Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) in Wajir County has arrested four people accused of illegally poaching deer.
The men were seen carrying out construction work in Dasheg area, where the poaching incident was reported. KWS took action after receiving intelligence reports from members of the public about the illegal poaching that took place there.
The suspects are currently being held at Wajir East Prison, while further investigations are underway to ascertain the details of the incident and anyone who may have been involved. KWS stressed that it will continue its anti-poaching operations in the North Eastern region.
The arrest come after officers of KWS in the County in May were accused of killing two people at Wichir village county over alleged poaching . The two young men identified as Adam Hassan and Shukri Mohamed were reported to have died on the spot, after being shot from the back.
The area Member of County Assembly (MCA) Adannur Ibrahim called on the national government to investigate the incident with speed for justice of the victims. The incident was also condemned by KNCHR.
