Chaos erupted at Kamukunji Stadium on Sunday afternoon after fans of Valley Apartments and Flamingo Estates clashed during the Nakuru Town East Inter Estate football quarterfinals, forcing a temporary halt to the high stakes encounter.
The match kicked off in a vibrant atmosphere, with supporters from both sides filling the stands and cheering passionately. Tensions, however, rose midway through the second half after Flamingo scored their third goal. What began as heated verbal exchanges between rival fans quickly escalated into pushing, stone-throwing, and widespread disorder around the stadium.
Security personnel struggled to contain the violence as panic spread through parts of the terraces. Several spectators sustained minor injuries, while at least two were rushed to hospital for treatment, according to eyewitness accounts.
Police officers from Nakuru Town East Sub County later moved in to restore order, dispersing the unruly crowds and securing the stadium perimeter. Community leaders and sports enthusiasts have since called for stronger fan education and stricter enforcement of stadium regulations to prevent similar incidents in future.
Despite the ugly scenes, organizers expressed optimism that the tournament will proceed as planned, stressing that the competition is designed to promote unity, nurture local talent, and provide a peaceful platform for community engagement.
