- Ugandan TikToker Janice has asked Africa not to rely on aid.
After her video sparked a huge debate, Ugandan TikToker Janice Nkajja has come to the international media and talked to Fox News about the effects of the suspension of US aid under President Donald Trump.
Through her Instagram page, Nkajja explained that although the reduction in aid will affect the lives of millions, especially those living with HIV in Africa, this situation reveals a bigger problem—Africa’s dependence on foreign aid.
“For a long time, aid has been an instrument of neo-colonial influence, failing to bring a permanent solution while promoting corruption and negligence within the administration,” said Nkajja.
From her point of view, instead of continuing to rely on foreign funding, African countries should use this opportunity to invest in strong institutions, manage resources effectively, and strengthen public service system.
“Our fate should not be decided in Washington but by our vision as a continent,” Nkajja concluded.
