Former Chief Justice Maraga has demanded that President William Ruto to take action against the death of X blogger Albert Ojwang’ at Central Police Station in Nairobi.
During a press address on Monday, Maraga faulted the Kenya Kwanza regime for dealing with the killings of Kenyans casually, by failing to hold those responsible in the increased cases of abductions and killings by the security agencies in the country.
“President Ruto and the security sector leadership have failed to take any action to bring to book all those security officers involved in the abduction, torture and killing of young Kenyans. Since Ruto took office and particularly in 2024 and 2025, this shows the level of callousness and disregard of Ruto and his leadership have for the life and suffering of Kenyans,” Maraga stated.
In his statement, Maraga also demanded the arrest and persecution of DIG Eliud Lagat, for he is lined to the arrest, torture, strangulation and eventual murder of the late Ojwang’, yet he is still in office despite evidence leaning him and his accomplices in the case.
“There is prima facie evidence that Mr. Eliud Lagat directly or indirectly, by himself or through his accomplices is implicated in the illegal arrest, torture, strangulation and death of the late Albert Ojwang’ yet Mr. Lagat remains in office. It is now time to immediately arrest and institute prosecutions against him,” further read the statement.
In his third demand, Maraga called for the arrest of Director DCI Mohamed Amin, IPOA, IG Douglas Kanja and DIG Lagat, for lying to Kenyans by order of oath, which he said has broken the trust of Kenyans in the institutions, and the only way to rebuild is by their arrest and persecution.
“IPOA, NPS, DCI lied under the oath, they have lost the trust of the Kenyan people. This cannot be allowed to continue. To begin resetting and rebuilding the process, arrest and persecutions of the Director of DCI, IG for the role in the death of Albert Ojwang’, abuse of office/perjury must happen forthwith,” he further demanded.
Maraga also stated that he will show up in solidarity with other Kenyans on June 25, to commemorate the death of the lives lost during the June 2024 protests, by marching and lighting candles, which is presumed to happen at the Bunge Tower.
