Slain X blogger Albert Ojwang’ has been buried at his father home in Kokwanyo village in Kabondo Kasipul Constituency. The burial mass was attended by thousands of youths, leaders from Homabay County, as well as members from the teaching fraternity.
The late blogger’s casket was lowered into his grave wrapped in Kenyan and Manchester United flags. The Kenyan flag symbolizing a hero he was, died for calling out the failures of government, while Manchester United’s flag implicated his support of the team, with his eulogy reading he was a diehard of the English Premier League team.
While mourners were still making access to the venue, a mourner was captured riding on a donkey dressed in human clothes, chanting traditional Luo songs, as he moved towards the casket, where he sang bowed to honour the slain 31-year-old teacher.
While addressing the congregation, mourners refused to be addressed by Governor Gladys Wanga, until he called on Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, who calmed the comrades from Mawego National Polytechnic, by reciting the comrades three rules, further denouncing the allegations that the Mawego police Station was torched by students from the institution.
“The comrades rules say, a comrade is always right, a comrade is never wrong and if you doubt, refer to rule number one and two! As the police said Ojwang’ hit his head on the wall died, is the same way their police station was burnt down,” Babu said.
The students forced the speakers to call on media houses that reported they torched Mawego Police Station, to withdraw their headlines, as it is tainting the image of the institution.
On Thursday, youths blocked marched with the body of the deceased to Mawego Police Station where he was first booked after being arrested, and later transferred to Central Police Station in Nairobi, where he was tortured to death.
Immediately the youths left, the station was set ablaze, with the OCS house also burnt in the incident which was condemned by Homa Bay County Police Commander Lawrence Koilen, reported no casualities.
Homabay Town MP Peter further claimed that the police station was burnt down by goons ferried from Nairobi, as youths in the area could not do such an act.
