Missing blogger Ndiang’ui Kinyagia has contacted his family after days of agony and online outrage for the government to produce him, including directive from the court, that demanded the Director of Criminal Investigation (DCI) to produce him whether dead or alive.
According to a statement released by the family Lawyer Advocate Wahome Thuku, Kinyagia contacted one of his relative on Tuesday, and informed them that he is fine, but did not disclose his location.
“Mr Ndiangui who went missing last week has contacted the family and that he is well, healthy and safe. Mr Ndiangui contacted a family member on Tuesday evening from undisclosed location,” Thuku stated.
Thuku added that the blogger further informed the relative that he is ready to cooperate with DCI, under the condition that his safety and security is guaranteed. He said that Kinyagia temporarily sough shelter after threats over his life.
“Mr Ndiangui indicated to the family member that he had hidden temporarily for fear of his life upon learning that DCI officers were looking for him over unknown criminal allegations,” he further stated.
Thuku in his statement further said that the information about his recent contact has been relied to the Law Society of Kenya (LSK), and asked him to present himself to Court at 11 am.
“We have therefore advised him to present himself before the High Court at Milimani Law Courts today, Thursday the 3rd July 2025 at 11am. This information has been duly communicated to the Law Society of Kenya for analysis and presentation in court,” Thuku stated.
The activist disappearance raised alarm in the country, after DCI officers visited his residence at Kinoo, and claimed to seize his personal items including laptops and phones, which the family confirmed and later reported the incident at Kinoo Police Station.
“We wish to remind the public that the DCI broke into his house in his absence and carried away several items and that the family reported the subsequent events at Kinoo Police Station,” read the statement further.
The family expressed their gratitude to Kenyans for speaking up. During his address, Amin claimed that Kinyagia was a person of interest in planning June 25 protests in the country and asked him to present himself to the nearest police station.
