Trans Nzoia governor George Natembeya has urged youths from Luhya community to apply for National Identification cards (ID), and register as voters in preparation of 2027 general elections.
Addressing residents at Butula in Busia Town, Natembeya said it is the only way to restore dignity and have political say when national politics are being planned by other communities. Natembeya has urged residents to use their power as the second largest population in the country to shape the politics of the country.
According to Natembeya, the only way to escape from disrespect as a community is to ensure they eradicate poverty and ensure that they register as voters and elect leaders who can bring development in the area.
“I have been telling you all that tumepangwa kwa muda mrefu, 2027 we are preparing and planning, we are not going through any person, but we are going with our own as a community, so that when things are being planned on the table, we are there. We are denouncing any disrespect accorded to us as watchmen and grave diggers, and poverty, unfair treatment from our bargainers, to end all this, our youth get your IDs and register as voters so that 2027 we can have a say as a community,” Natembeya remarked.
Natembeya has occasionally faulted Speaker of National Assembly Moses Wetang’ula and Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi for failing to champion development in the region, despite being in government for a long time. Further escalating their enmity, he accused the two top leaders for promoting puppet leadership that has impoverished the region.
“As a region we are the largest but fail to appear when national resources are being divided. We have suffered as a community, we are given minor jobs, and that is what we are eradicating and fighting against. We will not allow that, lazima tujikomnoe kama jamii,” Natembeya further remarked.
The opposition leaders are in Western region for a tour that commenced on Thursday, as the team is expected to tour Wetang’ula’s backyard today, as well as Kitale town.
