After 12 days of missing, blogger Ndiang’ui Kinyagia, appeared in court on Thursday, July 3, after going into hiding for fear of his life, according to statement released by the family Advocate Wahome Thuku.
His resurfacing coming after days of public outrage on social media calling for the government to release him. Kinyagia appeared at the Milimani Law Courts together with his mother Lilian Wanjiku, as the court convened to determine the next steps following his sudden reappearance.
During the session, his lawyer Kibe Mungai said that Kinyagia is sick and traumatized, and will not be in a position to participate fully in the Court proceedings. Mungai further told the Court that he had was informed about Kinyagia contact to his family by Thuku, the family advocate on Wednesday evening.
“Your Honour, we have him. We were looking for him, and he is finally here. But he’s not in good condition,” he told the court.
Mungia further stated that the blogger was in contact with his mother Wanjiku, and had not had time to talk to him to explain what happened while he was missing, and all the happenings that happened during the period, which was emphasized by a team of his lawyers.
“I regret that I can’t be of any assistance until we have had a session with him to know what happened to him,” Mungai further stated.
Justice church Mwita, accepted Kinyagia’s lawyers request, stating that the application was worthwhile, and that Kinyagia appearance in Court had fulfilled his earlier directive of DCI boss Mohamed Amin to present him in court dead or alive.
“My intentions was to have him and present him to Kenyans. He is here we have him. Also it’s good to allow the family and the lawyers time to speak to him,” Mwita stated.
Amin also was present in Court, as Mwita had order him to appear before him to explain the missing of Kinyagia, as his officers were last seen at his Kinoo residence, and seized items belonging to him. Kinyagia is expected in Court on July 18.
Amin had called on the blogger to present himself before any police station, as he was a person of interest in the planning of June 25 anniversary .
