Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has called out Kenyans laughing at the death of leaders, especially leaders in the political space recently in witnessed in the country.
Speaking on Sunday, May 25, Duale faulted the young generation for insulting leaders, citing phrase in Muslim religion that calls for respect of leaders, saying it against the religion to disrespect leaders from the political class to elders in the community.
According to him, the country must have a discussion on the degrading moral call among youths, with insults to leaders without fear, faulting the latest insults directed to the president of Tanzania Samia Suluhu, put also in a coffin.
“As a Muslim, there is a provision in our religion that says citizens must listen and respect leaders that’s how our children are brought up, it is an Islamic provision. All elders must be respected. People of Kenya we must have a discussion as a mora issue, why is that our children are insulting leaders our children are drawing and putting leaders in coffins celebrating when they say leaders have died, and we are transporting the same to our neigbouring countries,” Duale said.
He further cautioned that East African Community (EAC), does not call for interference of member states internal affairs, as each state has its own structure of governance, culture and constitution, condemning recent interference by activists from Kenya and Uganda in Tanzania’s political affairs.
“I want to make it clear that each country has its own governing structure, affairs, culture and constitution. The EAC protocol does not give you the freedom to go and interfere with internal affairs of another country member of the EAC,” he further explained.
Hitting indirectly to Senior Counsel Martha Karua and former chief justice Willy Mutunga, Duale faulted them for including activists and members from Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), for interfering with affairs of Tanzania, which contravenes EAC protocols, and further jeopardizes President William Ruto’s position as the EAC chairperson.
It is very sad that people who hold important constitutional office, want to go and interfere with internal issues of our member countries, the president of Kenya is a member chairperson of EAC. We have a very cordial relationship with our neighbours; the EAC does not include political activists and civil society groups to go and interfere with affairs of any member state,” Duale remarked.
His remarks come after CS Diaspora and Foreign Affairs Musalia Mudavadi, received a lot of criticism from Kenyans after siding with Tanzania Authority for detaining and deporting Kenyans who were in Tanzania in solidarity with opposition leader Tundu Lissu.
