During the launch of former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua’s party Democratic Citizens Party (DCP), chaos were witnessed after alleged goons tried to disrupt the meeting before being countered by Gachagua’s security.
Speaking about the chaos witnessed at the launch, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has said the police were not informed about the gathering. He also denied knowledge of Gachagua’ s new party launch.
According to Murkomen, the chaos erupted after alleged goons expected pay, which resulted in the stampede leaving three journalists injured. Individuals with plain clothes showed up and fired their guns in the air, however, Murkomen stated that investigations are ongoing to establish what happened.
“Initial investigations has revealed that some supporters were expecting payment, and as a result struggling for the money, there was a mayhem, leading to a stampede and some of the journalists at the event were injured. As I have enquired from NPS, there was no reports that showed notice of the meeting to provide enough security,” Murkomen remarked.
Gachagua launched his party yesterday in Nairobi, on what he called a duty from the citizen to form an all inclusive and listening government for the people, which is aimed at unseating President William Ruto in 2027; with former United Democratic Alliance (UDA), Secretary General Cleophas Malala named interim Deputy Party Leader.
Murkomen further urging political leaders in the country to notify the National Police Service (NPS), earlier of their planned political rallies to provide enough security for the attendees. Indirectly hitting at the former deputy president, Murkomen urged leaders to pay their supporters to avoid such incidents.
The launch was attended by former allies of President William Ruto including Cate Waruguru, former Agriculture CS Mithika Linturi, who has been throwing jab and criticizing the Kenya Kwanza government leaders for double standards and failing to deliver their promises to Kenyans.
The launch of Gachagua’ s party bring a new political outfit and turn in the country, after calls of unity with the opposition including former CS Fred Matiang’i, DAP-K party leader Eugene Wamalwa, Martha Karua and Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka.
