Ministry of Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba has called on Members of Parliament (MPs) to stop discussing the issue surrounding the capitation of learners, as it causing unnecessary tension among members of the public.
During an interaction with the members of the public on Monday, Ogamba clarified that his Ministry had nor proposed or implemented the reduction of capitation as stated earlier by the CS National Treasury John Mbadi.
He also came to the defense of Mbadi, stating that he never made the ongoing remarks, as it is being spread in the country.
“Nobody has ever said that we are reducing the money from KSh.22,000 to KSh.16,000. I don’t know where that came from. Even my colleague never said anything close to that,” he said.
Ogamba called on responsible reporting as misinformation can cause unnecessary tension among members of the public. He urged political leaders to stop faulting the system, but instead offer solutions and strategies to find funding models to sustain the same.
“We are all in this together. What happens in budget-making is a matter of looking at available funds and allocating them across ministries. The education sector deserves and will continue to receive the support it requires,” he urged.
Ogamba further highlighted that the success of the critical sector in the country, is dependent on collaborative effort from national and county governments, international partners to bring the success of the education.
He called on stakeholders to remain focused on solutions and support the Ministry in its mission to deliver quality education for all Kenyan children
His remarks come amidst war of words between leaders from different political outfits calling out the remarks government failing to sustain free education. Mbadi argued that the government is unable to sustain education following the increase number of learners yearly.
However, President William Ruto reaffirmed that the government will continue to sustain free education, as it is the best gift the government can offer to the young population in the country.
