The political tantrums in the country have taken a new turn after former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua launches his party Democratic Citizens Party (DCP) in Nairobi.
The party’s slogan Skiza Wakenya, Skiza Ground was launched on Thursday, May 15, with attendance from United Democratic Alliance (UDA) defectors including former Kakamega senator Cleophas Malala, Nyandarua Senator John Methu, his Kiambu colleague Karungo Thangw’a, former Laikipia Women Representative Cate Waruguru.
In his speech, he stated that Kenyans has asked him to form a political party that calls for inclusivity, and form a government that listens to the people.
Kenyans have told us to form a political party that forms a government of inclusivity, and government of the people, by the people. We took the challenge and formed the party that resonates with the people. Today, fufill the process as we have a party finally,” Gachagua stated.
The former UDA deputy party leader also disclosed the reason for the fallout between him and his former party leader. According to him, he is a truthful man and failed to agree with President William Ruto over lies.
“I’m a truthful and honest man, I detest lies and that is why I disagreed with liar number one. We have a politically party where everyone will be treated equally,” Gachagua stated.
His close ally Malala has been elected the party deputy leader on interim basis. Malala was ousted as UDA secretary general after he started criticizing the government, and his position taken by Hassan Omar.
Gachagua has reinforced the inclusivity of the party’s leadership including Gen Zs and millennials, to spearhead the party’s leadership as top officials. He further clarified that as a democratic party, aspirants vying on DCP will contest for nominations, as their will be no direct tickets, to uphold the party’s integrity and respect to democracy.
The launch of his party comes a day after he officially resigned from Kenya Kwanza ruling party UDA, citing lack of inclusivity and democracy in the party, echoes by his close ally Senator Methu.
