Democratic Citizen’s Party (DCP), has condemned the cancellation of their earlier request to use Kasarani Stadium on June, Tuesday 3, for the party’s official launch by Sports Kenya.
DCP has said that the government has been threatened by massive support and positive reception the party has received in a very short period, terming the move as unfortunate.
“It is unfortunate that aggression towards our party is reaching this level of cancelation of the venue for the launch,” DCP party stated.
In a letter dated May 21, 2025, Sports Kenya states that the the venue will be unavailable, as it has been booked by the sports team for prior preparations for the upcoming Championships for African Nations (CHAN 2025), which will be hosted at the complex.
“We regret to inform you that the venue will not be available due to prior bookings by sports team. We are also not taking further bookings due to preparations for the upcoming Championships for African Nations (CHAN 2025) to be hosted within the complex,” Gabriel Komora Acting Director General stated.
DCP made the announcement to its members on the cancellation of their request despite being issued an invoice to proceed with the payments process. The party has however condemned the indefinite cancellation further claiming that Kasarani Stadium is a public facility and can be accessed by any Kenyan for public good.
“We take note of the indefinite venue cancellation by Sports Kenya, which is an affront to democracy and an attempt to deter the DCP Party Launch by the Government. The Kasarani Gymnasium Facility (Indoor Arena Auditorium) is a public facility which every Kenyan has a right to access and utilize for the public good,” DCP Party statement read.
Earlier, the party Rigathi Gachagua has stated that the party’s launch will go down in history of political parties in the country, as unmatched and never seen before. The party members formerly from the ruling party United Democratic Alliance (UDA), have been receiving intimidation which they link it to the government.
Over the weekend, the party was in Kakamega to popularize the agenda to the people, led by the party’s interim Deputy Party Leader Cleophas Malala, along senators Karungo Thangwa’ah and John Methu, who were met with excessive force from the police, with Methu missing a live bullet fired towards him by an inch.
